A ground breaking ceremony took place at Redden Court School in Harold Hill on Wednesday 16th July 2008. The Project Manager for Apollo, Tom Weal, explained that the £5.6 million project involves two big extensions which will include art, music studio and drama facilities. These will benefit both the school and local community. Apollo Education has ensured that there are ‘vision panels’ at different heights in the hoardings so that the students can view what is happening on site. They will also take the young people on tours of the site at various stages to ensure they are informed and engaged. Cabinet Member for Education and Children's Services, Councillor Geoffrey Starns, who was also present at the ceremony said; “This is going be a 21st century building for 21st century students. We are impressed with Apollo’s approach, they are working well with the school, minimising the impact on the student’s routines whilst ensuring that they are involved. This is a great project which we have been working toward for a number of years and we are looking forward to seeing it all up and running.” Head Teacher of the school, Peter Townrow, shared “I retire tomorrow and the launch of this project is a dream come true. The extensions really will revolutionise the school for the children. I have also fulfilled one of my life long ambitions today by using a digger.” |
